{"id":37355,"date":"2021-05-24T06:18:09","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T05:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=37355"},"modified":"2021-05-24T06:37:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T05:37:35","slug":"8-year-old-girl-recounts-how-her-father-beats-her-with-machete-because-their-bishop-said-she-made-him-blind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/24\/8-year-old-girl-recounts-how-her-father-beats-her-with-machete-because-their-bishop-said-she-made-him-blind\/","title":{"rendered":"8-year-old girl recounts how her father beats her with  machete because their Bishop said she made him blind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An 8-year-old girl, Mercy has narrated how her father allegedly tried to kill her because their Bishop said she was the the cause of his blindness in Akwa Ibom state.<\/p>\n<p>Mary, who was rescued by Pastor Okon John, a volunteer with the Child&#8217;s Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) in Eket, recounted her ordeal to a CRARN personnel.<\/p>\n<p>The little girl said; &#8220;My father used to beat me with sticks and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/22\/5-year-old-boy-accused-of-witchcraft-in-akwa-ibom-narrates-his-ordeal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">machetes<\/a> with the help of my elder brother, Faith (aka AY); because our Bishop said I was the cause of his blindness. He pressed my neck on the ground asking me to confess or he\u2019d kill me,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I heard stories of children taken to the forest and they\u2019ll never return back because they\u2019re \u2018witches\u2019 and \u2018wizards\u2019; and stories of ruffians who came and picked children, even elderly people in the night and killed them, and I thought of where my two brothers were, with no answers coming up.
