{"id":39248,"date":"2021-05-28T18:46:25","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T17:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=39248"},"modified":"2021-05-28T19:57:29","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T18:57:29","slug":"icpc-arrests-two-frsc-officials-who-forged-certificates-for-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/28\/icpc-arrests-two-frsc-officials-who-forged-certificates-for-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"ICPC arrests two FRSC officials who \u2018forged certificates for promotion\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly forging academic certificates.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the officers were\u00a0arrested following a petition to the ICPC by Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC corps marshal.<\/p>\n<p>Boboye had alleged that the two officials approached the management of the FRSC with forged bachelor of science degrees in public administration from the University of Abuja in other to be upgraded to officer cadre.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Friday jointly signed by the ICPC spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua and FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem.<\/p>\n<p>The commission\u00a0also arrested two members of a certificate forgery syndicate, Sunday Okpara and Abdulrahman Razak, who helped the corps officers to forge their certificates.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the syndicate include Matthias Ibitiye, Usman Danjuma, and Uchenna Ifeonu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore their arrest by ICPC, the corps had contacted the University of Abuja to ascertain the authenticity of the certificates,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school wrote to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/28\/icpc-arrests-two-frsc-officials-who-forged-certificates-for-promotion\/\">FRSC<\/a> confirming that the degree certificates were forged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet, Onyuwe and Ogoli, maintained that they were originals approved by the university, having allegedly paid N500,000 bribe to a staff of the university to falsify records in order to back their claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cICPC, in the course of investigation found that the two FRSC officials were students of the distance learning programme of the university. However, they could not graduate due to poor results, as documents from the university showed they had multiple carry-overs in the courses registered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis allegedly made them approach the forgery syndicate to prepare the forged degree certificates for them to present to their organization for an upgrade of their cadre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of N430,000 was found to have been paid to the syndicate for the forgery, with Onyuwe paying N230,000 while Ogoli paid N200,000 respectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRazak, who claimed to be a printer, told ICPC operatives that he used an original certificate from the university obtained from a friend to perfect the forgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The commission said the matter will be taken to court upon the conclusion of investigations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ICPC, the exercise is part of the collaboration between the commission and the FRSC to stamp out corruption from the corps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly forging academic certificates.
