{"id":40010,"date":"2021-05-30T17:16:57","date_gmt":"2021-05-30T16:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=40010"},"modified":"2021-05-30T17:16:57","modified_gmt":"2021-05-30T16:16:57","slug":"buhari-to-commission-lagos-ibadan-standard-gauge-on-june-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/30\/buhari-to-commission-lagos-ibadan-standard-gauge-on-june-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari to commission Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge on June 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari will commission the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge project on June 10, the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has said.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed disclosed this on Sunday during a joint inspection of the project with Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed told newsmen at the Wole Soyinka Station in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/26\/okada-riders-attack-motorists-as-truck-crushes-colleague-to-death-in-abeokuta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abeokuta<\/a> the inspection was to ensure that all the T\u2019s are crossed and I\u2019s dotted ahead of the commissioning.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cTentatively, the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge would be commissioned on June 10. What the Honourable Minister is doing is to ensure that all the I\u2019s are dotted and the T\u2019s are crossed before June 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see right from Apapa to Agege, Papalanto to this place, you have seen us go down to engage the contractor to ensure that everything is in order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause this is one of the flagships of this administration, one of the landmark achievements of this administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only this is the first time we are having a dual standard gauge but you can see the passion by which the Minister supervises the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Minister reiterated commitment of the administration to improve the lives of the people through the railway modernisation projects across the country which would significantly cut travel times and make travelling more comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing to deflect the attacks on this administration than by showing concrete evidence like this one that this administration is focused, is committed to delivering infrastructures to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this railway project completed, we are cutting down the travel time between Lagos and Ibadan but more importantly we are creating jobs along the line and it is by far safer than travelling by road.
