{"id":40487,"date":"2021-05-31T19:33:23","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T18:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=40487"},"modified":"2021-05-31T19:33:23","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T18:33:23","slug":"sit-at-home-order-why-igbo-people-obey-nnamdi-kanu-ex-dig-adeoye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/31\/sit-at-home-order-why-igbo-people-obey-nnamdi-kanu-ex-dig-adeoye\/","title":{"rendered":"Sit-At-Home order: Why Igbo people obey Nnamdi Kanu \u2013Ex-DIG Adeoye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Adedayo Adeoye (retd.), has explained the reason why people in the South-Eastern part of the country probably complied with proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra\u2019s sit-at-home order.<\/p>\n<p>Adeoye said the Igbo people complied with Nnamdi Kanu&#8217;s sit-at-home order for fear of being attacked while some obeyed because they support IPOB.<\/p>\n<p>He stated this during an interview with The PUNCH on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/29\/sit-at-home-order-police-tell-ipob-fighters-to-write-their-wills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPOB<\/a>&#8216;s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, had said human and vehicular movement would be restricted across the South-East on Monday to mark the 54th anniversary of Biafra.<\/p>\n<p>The Pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/31\/ikpeazu-we-can-achieve-biafra-nation-without-barrels-of-the-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biafra<\/a> group said all markets, parks, schools, airports and others to would\u00a0shut down.<\/p>\n<p>DIG Adeoye said, \u201cSome people probably stayed at home because they support what is happening there. Another way to look at it is that that the people probably stayed at home because they fear they would be attacked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DIG further said the rising insecurity in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/24\/ipob-lists-south-east-and-south-south-personalities-that-must-pay-for-their-sins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South-East<\/a> will affect the 2023 general elections as people might be afraid to come out and vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation in the South-East will definitely affect the 2023 election. While some people will be bold to come out during the election, some will be afraid to do so. Those who are bold to come out will vote. The vote needed is the majority. If 10 people vote and six vote for a party, the party has gotten the majority,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to resolve the agitations in the country amicably by granting true federalism to sub-nationals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important that all these issues should be resolved through true federalism. We should go back to the 1963 constitution. I am not in support of secession but the zones should be granted true federalism. That does not mean Nigeria will not exist again.
