{"id":41090,"date":"2021-06-02T05:22:17","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T04:22:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=41090"},"modified":"2021-06-02T05:24:52","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T04:24:52","slug":"fg-working-to-complete-lagos-ibadan-expressway-before-may-2022-says-reps-panel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/02\/fg-working-to-complete-lagos-ibadan-expressway-before-may-2022-says-reps-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"FG working to complete Lagos-Ibadan expressway before May 2022, says Reps panel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The house of representatives committee on works has revealed that the federal government is working towards ensuring that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway rehabilitation project is completed before May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Tuesday by the chairman of the committee, Abubakar Kabir during an inspection of roads\u00a0in Lagos and other parts of the south-west.<\/p>\n<p>There has been frequent closure of some sections of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/01\/one-dead-two-injured-in-car-crash-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway\/\">Lagos-Ibadan expressway<\/a> because of the ongoing reconstruction exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Kabir said the contractors have achieved significant progress to enable them meet the completion deadline.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the Buhari administration is exploring funding options to ensure adequate financing of the project, including paying of compensation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contractors and the director, federal highways, south-west, have assured us of the timely completion of the project. And the only challenge we have is the issue of compensation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to discuss how we can assist the contractors and the federal ministry of works to resolve the issues of compensation, relocation of services so that the contractors will finish the project before May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want President Buhari and the entire cabinet and the national assembly to come here and celebrate with the people of Lagos and south-west on this important project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Adedamola Kuti, director of federal highways, south-west, explained the need for a flyover on a section of the road.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the heavy flow of movement around the axis requires the transfer of traffic through an overpass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The house of representatives committee on works has revealed that the federal government is working towards ensuring that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway rehabilitation project is completed before May 2022.
