{"id":41804,"date":"2021-06-03T13:32:44","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T12:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=41804"},"modified":"2021-06-03T13:32:44","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T12:32:44","slug":"insecurity-niger-govt-bans-commercial-motorcycles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/03\/insecurity-niger-govt-bans-commercial-motorcycles\/","title":{"rendered":"Insecurity: Niger Gov&#8217;t bans commercial motorcycles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Governor of Niger state, Mohammed Ketso has stated that the government has banned commercial motorcycle operators in an effort to curb insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced by Ketso while giving updates about efforts to rescue the school children recently abducted in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that students and staff of Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Tegina town, Rafi LGA were taken\u00a0hostage on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ketso, the ban on motorcycles will take effect on June 3 but private owners can operate between 6am and 9pm daily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are parts of measures being put in place by the government towards addressing the rising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/02\/police-arrest-10-suspects-over-attacks-on-security-operatives-in-akwa-ibom\/\">security<\/a> situation in the state, especially Minna, the state capital,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He assured of the government\u2019s commitment towards supporting security agencies with the required logistics to secure the state<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have so far given 89 operational vehicles, 283 operational motorcycles, 30 bicycles, four tricycles in addition to funding the various security operations in the state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are in addition to 70 vehicles and 2,300 motorcycles as mobility support for the vigilante corps in the state,\u201d Ketsu said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the ongoing negotiation with the bandits, the deputy governor said ransom will not be paid for the students\u2019 release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNiger state government is negotiating the release of the abductees and we are confident that in no distant time, the pupils will be united with their parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment is in touch with some of the parents of the kidnapped children, they have been assured of the safe return of their wards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He confirmed that 163 children and some staff were kidnapped by the bandits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Governor of Niger state, Mohammed Ketso has stated that the government has banned commercial motorcycle operators in an effort to curb insecurity.
