{"id":43199,"date":"2021-06-06T18:17:11","date_gmt":"2021-06-06T17:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=43199"},"modified":"2021-06-06T18:28:35","modified_gmt":"2021-06-06T17:28:35","slug":"twitterban-mtn-glo-others-dragged-to-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/06\/twitterban-mtn-glo-others-dragged-to-court\/","title":{"rendered":"#TwitterBan: MTN, Glo, others dragged to court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Concerned Nigerians Group have dragged MTN, Glo, Etisalat, Airtel,other telecommunication companies to court for blocking Nigerians from Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ordered telecoms to block subscribers from accessing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/06\/benue-governor-ortom-reacts-to-twitters-suspension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> after the government announced the suspension of the microblog.<\/p>\n<p>Convener of the group, Deji Adeyanju, while confirming the development, said immediately court resume, the group would drag the telecoms before it for blocking Nigerians from accessing Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>He described the restriction as breaching the fundamental human rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImmediately the courts are back, we are going to do it so that we can set a judicial precedent on the matter that Telcoms have no right to disconnect Twitter from Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigerian Constitution section 37 has already placed a responsibility, an obligation on the government to respect the rights of Nigerians to enjoy telecommunications and telegraphic communications as well which Twitter falls within.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat they (Mobile Operators) are doing is illegal and we must seek the interpretation of the court on that matter,\u201d Adeyanju said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Concerned Nigerians Group have dragged MTN, Glo, Etisalat, Airtel,other telecommunication companies to court for blocking Nigerians from Twitter.
