{"id":4349,"date":"2021-03-12T17:55:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T16:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=4349"},"modified":"2021-03-12T17:55:57","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T16:55:57","slug":"police-arrest-nigerian-man-for-allegedly-raping-an-83-year-old-woman-suffering-from-alzheimers-disease-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/12\/police-arrest-nigerian-man-for-allegedly-raping-an-83-year-old-woman-suffering-from-alzheimers-disease-in-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest Nigerian man for allegedly raping an 83-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer&#8217;s disease in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police have arrested a 52-year-old Nigerian man identified as Olabamidele Olumide Bewaji\u00a0 for allegedly raping an 83-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that\u00a0Bewaji was accused of attacking the woman at the Pillars of Mankato home in Mankato, Minnesota since the beginning of March.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian nationalwas nabbed by the woman&#8217;s son who set up a surveillance camera in his mother\u2019s room so he could keep an eye on her while at home.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4355 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale_chocomilo\/2021\/03\/12\/604b6f6fc9207.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale_chocomilo\/2021\/03\/12\/604b6f6fc9207.png 540w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale_chocomilo\/2021\/03\/12\/604b6f6fc9207-300x249.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He told a local newspaper that he\u00a0Bewaji, a carer, caressed his mother, before stripping her clothes off and sexually assaulting her as she lay in bed.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that the carer then climbed into the his mum\u2019s bed, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her a second time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A court heard that a surveillance camera set up by the victim\u2019s son was equipped with a speaker, which let him broadcast his voice into her room. The son ordered Bewaji to leave his mother alone, it is alleged. He was said to have eventually complied to the son\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<p>The Free Press reported that after the police arrived at the scene after being called by the victim\u2019s son, they found the elderly woman half-naked and unable to understand what had happened to her.<\/p>\n<p>Bewaji was identified as a suspect, and initially denied the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/11\/nipost-reclaims-collection-of-stamp-duty-charges-from-firs\/\">charges<\/a> against him, it is claimed. He is then said to have admitted sexual contact with the elderly woman, but claimed he only did so after she made overtures to him.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian man also admitted a second sexual encounter with the woman in February, it is alleged, despite knowing she is a vulnerable adult.
