{"id":44608,"date":"2021-06-09T20:15:19","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T19:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=44608"},"modified":"2021-06-09T20:15:19","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T19:15:19","slug":"lagos-efcc-arrest-son-father-for-alleged-internet-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/09\/lagos-efcc-arrest-son-father-for-alleged-internet-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos: EFCC arrest son, father for alleged internet fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is grilling a father, Isa Bola Bakare, and his son, Malik Giles Bakare over alleged conspiracy on internet-related fraud.<\/p>\n<p>They were apprehended for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence and retention of proceeds of unlawful activities.<\/p>\n<p>Malik was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police, Force CID, Alagbon in Lagos on May 31, 2021, and handed over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/08\/efcc-arrests-50-suspected-internet-fraudsters-in-ibadan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EFCC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Wednesday, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said Malik acted as a \u201cmiddleman\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe connects internet fraudsters around the globe with pickers, and receives some percentage on every successful transaction\u201d, it read.<\/p>\n<p>During preliminary investigation, the father appeared at the EFCC to claim the N46 million Range Rover SUV recovered from Malik.<\/p>\n<p>Uwujaren said the senior Bakare was arrested after he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of how he acquired it.<\/p>\n<p>Items seized from the suspects include the vehicle, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, an iPhone 8 and \u201csome incriminating items\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The father and son will be charged to court after the conclusion of the full investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is grilling a father, Isa Bola Bakare, and his son, Malik Giles Bakare over alleged conspiracy on internet-related fraud.
