{"id":44633,"date":"2021-06-09T20:44:46","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T19:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=44633"},"modified":"2021-06-09T20:44:46","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T19:44:46","slug":"osun-shuts-600-illegal-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/09\/osun-shuts-600-illegal-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Osun shuts 600 illegal schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Osun government says it has shut more than 600 nursery and primary schools operating without minimum standard requirements in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Education, Folorunsho Bamisayemi, said this during an inter-ministerial news conference organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation on Wednesday in Osogbo.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bamisayemi said the closure of the schools was part of the state government\u2019s effort to sanitise the sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have declared a war on mushroom schools,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have zero tolerance for quacks in the system and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/07\/kano-to-redeploy-5000-civil-servants-to-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">schools<\/a> that do not meet the required standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know the danger of mushroom schools, because once the education foundation of a child is destroyed, it becomes difficult to build a solid structure on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bamisayemi said that it was now compulsory for anyone that wanted to establish a school to have a Teacher\u2019s Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Certificate, among other requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, Olalekan Badmus, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, said \u201dthe government was feeding more than 30,000 vulnerable persons on a monthly basis under its food support scheme\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Badmus said the state government was spending more than N100 million on the food support scheme every month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vulnerable in the society are also a major concern for the governor, and that was how the issue of Osun Food Support Scheme came to be, with 30,000 people benefitting from the scheme monthly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have successfully implemented the scheme over three months, and we have done rice component and semovita.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also looking at the possibility of having a \u2018combo\u2019 package that will break the monotony of one food component.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have ensured the credibility of the scheme through reliance on the World Bank verified social register to identify the vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also ensured feedback mechanism to monitor the effectiveness of this scheme,\u201d Mr Badmus said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Osun government says it has shut more than 600 nursery and primary schools operating without minimum standard requirements in the state.
