{"id":4472,"date":"2021-03-13T11:33:28","date_gmt":"2021-03-13T10:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=4472"},"modified":"2021-03-13T11:33:28","modified_gmt":"2021-03-13T10:33:28","slug":"newly-appointed-nigerian-ambassador-to-mexico-adejare-bello-assaults-journalist-nuj-reacts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/13\/newly-appointed-nigerian-ambassador-to-mexico-adejare-bello-assaults-journalist-nuj-reacts\/","title":{"rendered":"Newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Adejare Bello assaults journalist, NUJ reacts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The newly appointed Nigerian ambassador to Mexico, Adejare Bello, on Friday, assaulted a journalist in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun State.<\/p>\n<p>Bello, a two-term former speaker of the Osun State assembly, currently representing Nigeria as an Ambassador, publicly attacked Adeniyi Akinromade, a reporter of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation while he was rendering social service during traffic gridlock.<\/p>\n<p>It was learnt that there was gridlock on Friday morning at Oke-Fia in Osogbo and the concerned journalist, decided to help direct vehicles away from the hold-up, to ensure the free flow of traffic on the jammed routes.<\/p>\n<p>However, Bello who was stuck in the same traffic gridlock at the time, alongside his security personnel alighted from his vehicle and began to assault the journalist.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Chapter has condemned in strong terms the assault meted out on its member, Niyi Akinromade by the former speaker, State House of Assembly, and Nigeria Ambassador to Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and the Secretary, Comrade Bukola Elufadejin stated, it is least expected a person of Adejare status to engage in such public assault on a journalist who was rendering social service at Oke-Fia in Osogbo.<\/p>\n<p>The statement frowned at the undignified attitude of Bello to descend so low to the point of slapping a citizen of Nigeria who he is assigned to protect their interest in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that the union would no longer tolerate attempts by highly-placed people to subject <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/27\/saudi-crown-prince-responsible-for-approving-operation-that-killed-journalist-khashoggi-us-intelligence-report-reveals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">journalists<\/a> to inhuman treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The union, therefore, demands for an apology from the former speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Bello, and warned against the reoccurrence of such act.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The newly appointed Nigerian ambassador to Mexico, Adejare Bello, on Friday, assaulted a journalist in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun State.
