{"id":47468,"date":"2021-06-16T19:13:46","date_gmt":"2021-06-16T18:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=47468"},"modified":"2021-06-16T19:13:46","modified_gmt":"2021-06-16T18:13:46","slug":"woman-sentenced-to-jail-in-kaduna-for-burning-house-belonging-to-ex-husbands-wife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/16\/woman-sentenced-to-jail-in-kaduna-for-burning-house-belonging-to-ex-husbands-wife\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman sentenced to jail in Kaduna for burning house belonging to ex-husband\u2019s wife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old woman, Zainab Ibrahim has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Sharia Court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna for burning a house belonging to her former husband\u2019s new wife.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution counsel, Sambo Maigari, had earlier narrated to the court that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 174 and 373 of Shari\u2019a criminal procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Maigari said that the convict confessed that she used petrol to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/04\/angry-youths-burn-truck-load-of-cows-after-driver-kills-8-hawkers-in-akwa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">burn<\/a> the new bride\u2019s house out of jealousy.<\/p>\n<p>In her plea for mercy, she claimed that she was an obedient wife to her former husband until he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/12\/body-of-6-year-old-girl-kidnapped-by-her-dad-is-found-in-bag-3000ft-below-sea-level\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">divorced<\/a> her to take another wife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had promised to bring me back to my matrimonial home but did not after I served him and his parents for many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe house belongs to me and my seven children,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta sentenced Ibrahim after she pleaded criminal trespass and mischief by fire.<\/p>\n<p>The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Abubakar-Tureta also ordered her to pay N131,000 as compensation for burning some household items belonging to Maryam Ramalan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old woman, Zainab Ibrahim has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Sharia Court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna for burning a house belonging to her former husband\u2019s new wife.
