{"id":48711,"date":"2021-06-19T22:31:04","date_gmt":"2021-06-19T21:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=48711"},"modified":"2021-06-19T22:31:04","modified_gmt":"2021-06-19T21:31:04","slug":"unijos-elects-ejikeme-acting-vc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/19\/unijos-elects-ejikeme-acting-vc\/","title":{"rendered":"UNIJOS elects Ejikeme Acting VC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate of the University of Jos, has elected Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme as Acting Vice- Chancellor of the institution.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by Daily Post, Ejikeme was elected by Senate of the University at its emergency meeting on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Ejikeme, a professor of Clinical Psychology and Social Work replaces Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako whose single five-year tenure expires next week.<\/p>\n<p>Our correspondent gathered that the need to get a new Vice-Chancellor for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/17\/gunmen-abduct-unijos-professor-and-her-husband\/\">university<\/a> became necessary so as to avoid a leadership vacuum in the institution.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Ejikeme is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University.<\/p>\n<p>Ejikeme, who served the university in many capacities, would succeed Professor Sebastian Maimako on 23rd June this year.<\/p>\n<p>Ejikeme is to act as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university until a substantive VC emerges.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the new Acting VC is a graduate of Psychology B.Sc. (Hons) from the University of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>He obtained the PGDE, M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology, a Masters of Science Degree in Social Work (MSSW) and PhD from the University of Jos among a host of other academic and professional certificates.<\/p>\n<p>Ejikeme was awarded Fellow of the Nigerian Psychological Association (FNPA) in November, 2014 and was honored with an Award of Excellence in Service to Humanity by the Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) in recognition of his numerous work to promote Social Work Profession and practice in Nigeria among many other professional accolades.<\/p>\n<p>The don started his teaching career with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/09\/student-jailed-for-stealing-phone-in-jos\/\">University of Jos<\/a> in 1986 where he began teaching psychologically-oriented Sociology and Social Work Courses in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>He has held several academic and administrative positions including Head of Department, Sociology; Head of Department, General and Applied Psychology; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; Chairman, Committee of Deans and Directors and Senate Representative on the 13th Governing Council, University of Jos among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate of the University of Jos, has elected Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme as Acting Vice- Chancellor of the institution.
