{"id":50005,"date":"2021-06-23T12:46:55","date_gmt":"2021-06-23T11:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=50005"},"modified":"2021-06-23T12:46:55","modified_gmt":"2021-06-23T11:46:55","slug":"unijos-employs-hunters-to-protect-students-on-campus-hostels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/23\/unijos-employs-hunters-to-protect-students-on-campus-hostels\/","title":{"rendered":"UNIJOS employs hunters to protect students on campus, hostels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities of the University of Jos have engaged the services of local hunters to protect students on campus and their hostels.<\/p>\n<p>The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, who disclosed this on Tuesday during the valedictory session to mark the end of his five-year tenure said, \u201cIt is no longer news that the security situation in the country is quite tenuous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why under my administration, we made frantic efforts to ensure that all lives and property within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/17\/gunmen-abduct-unijos-professor-and-her-husband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">university<\/a> are adequately protected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we got a security report that we were the soft target, we close our hostels for almost two weeks and suspended lectures eventually. Before we could reopen, we were given a condition that we must employ the services of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/09\/go-after-killer-herders-not-local-hunters-or-security-guards-sunday-igboho-admonishes-dss-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local hunters<\/a> to help us secure our hostels, particularly at night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, this is where we are, but thank God, the Director of Peace and Conflict Studies, looking at the happening, has offered to train these hunters on the rule of engagement in their working in the university.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maimako noted that apart from his collaboration with various security experts which led to significant drop in crime in the university, the institution under his leadership also initiated and completed 85 projects which have been inaugurated in the period of five years when he served as Vice Chancellor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities of the University of Jos have engaged the services of local hunters to protect students on campus and their hostels.
