Authorities of the University of Lagos are considering suspending Chidinma Ojukwu, the alleged killer of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.<\/p>\n

According to sources in the university\u2019s Senate, on Friday,\u00a0 the 21-year-old student\u2019s action was contrary to the provisions of the institution\u2019s Students Handbook and would be suspended.<\/p>\n

A professor at the university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The PUNCH that \u201cthere is no two ways, she will be suspended.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that the suspect would at least be suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.<\/p>\n

A dean in one of the faculties in the university also noted that the student would not be able to escape suspension based on the alleged behaviour.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe don\u2019t just suspend like that. A committee will examine the situation, including the video where she confessed before taking a decision. But I do not think she can escape suspension.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Chidinma, a 300-level Mass Communication student, UNILAG, had on Thursday confessed to stabbing Ataga to death<\/a> while being paraded at the state police command headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos State.<\/p>\n

The Head, Mass Communication Department of the university, Joseph Tejumaiye, said what the university\u2019s handbook for undergraduates stipulates will determine if Chidinma would be suspended or expelled<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is what is in the handbook of the university. I am very sure that the school will implement that to the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want you to know that certificates are awarded on the basis of learning and character. It is not based only on learning.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe allegedly committed an offence against the state. Criminals are everywhere. It is just unfortunate that she is just our student,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Officials of the University\u2019s Public Relations and Student Affairs units confirmed that Chidinma<\/a> may be suspended.<\/p>\n
