{"id":51650,"date":"2021-06-27T19:56:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-27T18:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=51650"},"modified":"2021-06-27T19:56:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-27T18:56:21","slug":"fg-denies-plan-to-ban-importation-of-gas-cylinders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/27\/fg-denies-plan-to-ban-importation-of-gas-cylinders\/","title":{"rendered":"FG denies plan to ban importation of gas cylinders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has disclosed that it does not have any plan to ban the importation of gas cylinders into the country.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by senior special assistant on domestic gas in the office of the vice-president, Dayo Adesina during\u00a0an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Nigeria cannot make such decision because the country does not have enough gas manufacturing plants to meet local demand.<\/p>\n<p>Adesina said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/27\/coronavirus-impacted-positively-on-oil-and-gas-sector-in-nigeria-minister\/\">Nigeria<\/a> will continue to develop the local capacity until it is self-sufficient to establish enough gas plant in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Nigeria, with over 200 million people, has less than two million cylinders. So, if you had 20 cylinder manufacturing plants, it still won\u2019t be enough,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a new one that opened in 2019, two that are shut down and three that have sought approval for manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot ban what you don\u2019t have Banning importation is not going to solve the problem.
