{"id":55203,"date":"2021-07-06T19:18:38","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T18:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=55203"},"modified":"2021-07-06T19:18:38","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T18:18:38","slug":"dpr-seals-off-103-filling-stations-13-gas-plants-in-lagos-for-illegal-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/06\/dpr-seals-off-103-filling-stations-13-gas-plants-in-lagos-for-illegal-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"DPR seals off 103 filling stations, 13 gas plants in Lagos for \u2018illegal\u2019 operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>103 filling stations and 13 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants have been sealed off by the Department over alleged illegal operations.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced on Tuesday by the DPR zonal operations controller, Ayorinde Cardoso in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Cardoso said the outlets were shut down after a surveillance exercise was carried out by DPR task force teams on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the filling stations, located both on the mainland and Island axis of the state, were sealed for operating without valid licence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis is a continuous exercise by the DPR to improve safety in selling and distribution of LPG in Lagos State,\u201d Cardoso said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe task force visited 216 facilities and observed that 103 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/25\/five-suspects-dealing-in-adulterated-petroleum-products-arrested-by-ondo-nscdc\/\">petroleum<\/a> products retail outlets lacked the prerequisite approval and were subsequently shut down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the closure of the LPG (cooking gas) plants, he said they were shut down for non-compliance with DPR guidelines and international safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the gas plants were operating without prerequisite approval or licence from the regulatory agency, while some were operating in unapproved locations.<\/p>\n<p>Cardoso added that the move was aimed at reducing the occurrence of gas explosion and fire incidents in Lagos state.<\/p>\n<p>In the first half of the year, at least five cases of fire incidents and gas explosions have been reported.<\/p>\n<p>In February, a fire incident was reported at\u00a0Iddo terminal in Ebute Metta, which was caused by power surge when electricity was restored at shanties behind the terminus.<\/p>\n<p>In March, fire engulfed\u00a0seven vehicles at Otedola Bridge\u00a0inwards Berger area on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway after a 45,000-litre diesel tanker had an accident.<\/p>\n<p>On April 13, 2021 a gas explosion rocked the\u00a0Amuwo-Odofin LGA\u00a0of Lagos state, however no lives were lost to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>On May 6, fire gutted a section of the\u00a0Cairo market in Oshodi-Isolo LGA.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, there was a fire incident at the Alapeju section of the\u00a0Ladipo spare parts market\u00a0in Mushin.<\/p>\n<p>In June, three persons were killed, 13 persons were injured, and 25 cars destroyed in Ikeja following an\u00a0LPG tanker explosion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>103 filling stations and 13 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants have been sealed off by the Department over alleged illegal operations.
