{"id":55402,"date":"2021-07-07T08:42:53","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T07:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=55402"},"modified":"2021-07-07T08:42:53","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T07:42:53","slug":"court-orders-ganduje-to-pay-n800k-to-daily-nigerian-publisher-over-dollar-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/07\/court-orders-ganduje-to-pay-n800k-to-daily-nigerian-publisher-over-dollar-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders Ganduje to pay N800k to Daily Nigerian publisher over dollar video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje has been ordered a Kano state high court to pay N800,000 to Ja&#8217;afar Ja&#8217;afar, publisher of Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper over a dollar bribery video.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that a series of the secretly recorded videos in 2018 had shown a figure believed to be Ganduje pocketing wads of dollars allegedly taken as kickbacks.<\/p>\n<p>Denying the viral videos, the governor had stated that they were doctored and blamed the incident on<span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0mischief makers who were bent on tarnishing his reputation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He had also gone to the court in the attempt to clear his name, while asking the publisher to pay<\/span>\u00a0N3 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/21\/court-awards-n82bn-damages-against-mobil-nnpc-over-oil-spills\/\">damages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On June 28, the governor filed an application at the court through his counsel, Offiong Offiong, seeking to discontinue the case.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing of the case, on Tuesday, Utum Eteng, counsel to Ja\u2019afar, and M.B. Azumi, counsel to Penlight Media Limited, publisher of Daily Nigerian, did not object the application, but demanded the sum of N400 million as part of terms to discontinue the suit.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers also demanded an apology, which they said should be published in national dailies, as well as a pre-action letter.<\/p>\n<p>On June 28, the governor filed an application at the court through his counsel, Offiong Offiong, seeking to discontinue the case.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing of the case, on Tuesday, Utum Eteng, counsel to Ja\u2019afar, and M.B.
