{"id":56846,"date":"2021-07-10T20:43:41","date_gmt":"2021-07-10T19:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=56846"},"modified":"2021-07-10T20:43:41","modified_gmt":"2021-07-10T19:43:41","slug":"senator-bent-dumps-pdp-for-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/10\/senator-bent-dumps-pdp-for-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"Senator Bent dumps PDP for APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Grace Bent, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n<p>Bent, who represented Adamawa South between 2007 and 2011 under the PDP, said she had had enough of the party during a ceremony where she was received into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/10\/apc-shifts-congresses-national-convention-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APC<\/a> in Yola on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>According to her: \u201cAfter 21 years in the PDP during when I held vital positions, I have decided, after wide consultations, to move on and to do so with progressive people, hence my decision to come into APC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bent\u2019s reception into the APC was attended by Governors Simon Lalong(Plateau); Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi) and Muhammadu Badaru (Jigawa).<\/p>\n<p>Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello was represented by his deputy, Edward Onoja.<\/p>\n<p>Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, performed the formal ushering of Grace Bent on behalf of APC caretaker Chairman, Mai Mala Buni.<\/p>\n<p>Nnamani congratulated her for choosing a new political life in the APC and assured she would have the freedom and fair playing ground to pursue her political ambitions under the party.<\/p>\n<p>He said the party was glad to have her, adding that she was a crowd puller and would help the upward swing of the party in Adamawa ahead of the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Bent was the first elected female senator from Adamawa followed by Senator Binta Garba, who represented Adamawa North between 2015 and 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Like Bent, Binta Garba failed to win a second term bid and was succeeded by Aisha Ahmed (Binani) elected in 2019 to represent Adamawa Central.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Grace Bent, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
