{"id":58993,"date":"2021-07-16T05:28:04","date_gmt":"2021-07-16T04:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=58993"},"modified":"2021-07-16T05:28:04","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T04:28:04","slug":"ipob-britain-law-firm-seek-nnamdi-kanus-consent-to-take-over-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/16\/ipob-britain-law-firm-seek-nnamdi-kanus-consent-to-take-over-case\/","title":{"rendered":"IPOB: Britain, law firm seek Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s consent to take over case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The British High Commission and a law firm in London, Bindmans, have reportedly sought the consent of the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to take up his case with Nigerian government.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that Kanu\u2019s Nigerian lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, delivered two forms to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/14\/nnamdi-kanus-arrest-fg-source-indicts-uk-confirms-woman-nailed-ipob-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPOB leader<\/a> on Wednesday during a visit to the office of the Department of State Services, where he is being detained.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, Ejimakor stated that the development would open up a new chapter in the trial of Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>Ejimakor added that the Nigerian government would be served with summons to bring him to the United Kingdom, where another case would be heard over the manner of his rendition to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to visit him on Wednesday and went with two forms. One was the consular consent form that the British High Commission required that he signs to consent to consular assistance. There was also a form from his counsel in the UK. The firm is known as Bindmans, one of the largest law firms in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe forms will open a whole new chapter of legality, including the filing of a Writ of Mandamus, against the Nigerian government in a UK court to compel it to produce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/16\/ipob-names-those-who-will-pay-for-their-satanic-role-if-anything-happens-to-nnamdi-kanu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kanu<\/a>, because his detention is illegal under the British law. It was an extraordinary rendition, which is an international crime by which a state kidnaps a suspect or a fugitive without the due process of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will be filing all these processes in the UK and there is a prospect of a UK court assuming universal jurisdiction or extra-territorial jurisdiction and reaching into Kenya so that they can arrest every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/02\/kenya-govt-reacts-to-nnamdi-kanus-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenyan official<\/a>, either authorised or not, and every Nigerian official involved in this case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/14\/ipob-leader-nnamdi-kanu-seeks-transfer-from-dss-custody-to-kuje-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DSS<\/a> collected the forms, saying they must first go through the vetting of its legal unit.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, stated that despite being told that he would collect them on Thursday, he had yet to be contacted by the government agency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British High Commission and a law firm in London, Bindmans, have reportedly sought the consent of the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to take up his case with Nigerian government.
