{"id":61493,"date":"2021-07-23T07:46:14","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T06:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=61493"},"modified":"2021-07-23T07:46:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T06:46:14","slug":"fuel-scarcity-imminent-as-tanker-drivers-embark-on-strike-in-rivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/23\/fuel-scarcity-imminent-as-tanker-drivers-embark-on-strike-in-rivers\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel scarcity imminent as tanker drivers embark on strike in Rivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Joseph Ebele, Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Rivers chapter has said that the ongoing Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, PTD, strike can lead to fuel scarcity.<\/p>\n<p>Ebele, who expressed concern in a statement on Thursday in Port Harcourt, said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/09\/fg-directs-nard-johesu-to-withdraw-strike-notices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strike<\/a>, if not stopped, might lead to very long queues at fuel stations in the State.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the strike was caused by a misunderstanding that ensued when the content of two fully-loaded trucks of petroleum products impounded by the security operatives got missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to state that about two months ago, two trucks suspected to have been loaded with adulterated petroleum products were impounded by security operatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trucks were, however, shifted to the security base while samples were also collected for further laboratory analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the analysis, it was confirmed that the suspected products were actually legitimate products and not adulterated as claimed by the security personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn that note, the owners of the products were invited to claim their goods but when they got to the security base, the two originally fully-loaded trucks were found empty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPTD has declared that no truck is permitted to load or convey petroleum products in any depot within the state pending replacement of the alleged missing products,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ebele, however, said that there was no need for panic buying, adding that necessary steps were being initiated to end the strike as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Joseph Ebele, Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Rivers chapter has said that the ongoing Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, PTD, strike can lead to fuel scarcity.
