{"id":62294,"date":"2021-07-25T14:44:30","date_gmt":"2021-07-25T13:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=62294"},"modified":"2021-07-25T14:44:30","modified_gmt":"2021-07-25T13:44:30","slug":"lawyer-gives-condition-for-igbohos-extradition-to-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/25\/lawyer-gives-condition-for-igbohos-extradition-to-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawyer gives condition for Igboho\u2019s extradition to Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ibrahim Salami, who is one of the Benin Republic-based lawyers of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has made it clear that the activist cannot be extradited to Nigeria by any legal means.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer claimed there was no agreement between Nigeria and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/22\/benin-rejects-igbohos-hasty-extradition-lawyers-write-germany-to-stop-moves\/\">Benin Republic<\/a> that could make an extradition possible.<\/p>\n<p>According to Salami, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/22\/what-nigerian-govt-must-do-before-court-grants-extradition-of-sunday-igboho-falana\/\">Igboho<\/a> can only be extradited by political arrangement, which in his opinion, is dangerous for his safety.<\/p>\n<p>Igboho\u2019s wife, Ropo, who was arrested with the 48-year-old activist on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadj\u00e8houn Airport in Cotonou, Republic of Benin on their way to Germany, has been released.<\/p>\n<p>The agitator is expected to appear in court again on Monday (tomorrow) and Salami has urged Igboho\u2019s supporters to stay away.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWhen we went to court on Thursday, we had a large turnout of Igboho\u2019s supporters. I frowned at their actions. They should stay at home and let us do our job. Igboho is accused of causing disorderliness and civil unrest. If they are now mobilising to court, it may send the wrong signal. They should support him with prayers from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no accord between Nigeria and Benin that allows Benin to extradite Igboho to Nigeria. He can only be extradited on political grounds. In that regard, the law won\u2019t apply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important that Igboho is not extradited to Nigeria under any circumstances.
