{"id":63969,"date":"2021-07-29T13:14:57","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=63969"},"modified":"2021-07-29T13:14:57","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:14:57","slug":"pdp-breaks-silence-as-supreme-court-affirms-akeredolus-victory-in-ondo-governorship-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/pdp-breaks-silence-as-supreme-court-affirms-akeredolus-victory-in-ondo-governorship-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP Breaks Silence As Supreme Court Affirms Akeredolu&#8217;s Victory In Ondo Governorship Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-transform: initial;\">The People&#8217;s Democratic Party has reacted to the Supreme Court judgement that affirmed the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"text-transform: initial;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/28\/supreme-court-upholds-akeredolus-victory\/\">victory of Rotimi Akeredolu<\/a><span style=\"text-transform: initial;\"> in the Ondo State governorship election that was held in October 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a split judgement delivered by a seven-man panel at the apex court of the land on Wednesday, 28th, July, 2021, four judges said Akeredolu was duly elected, while three had a contrary opinion.<\/p>\n<p>The PDP and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, had earlier filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, seeking to nullify Akeredolu&#8217;s victory on the ground that he wasn&#8217;t qualified to contest the election.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition party argued that Akeredolu&#8217;s candidacy was sponsored by Governor Mai Buni of Yobe State, which is against the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>In reaction to the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the PDP said the split judgement vindicates its appeal.
