{"id":63987,"date":"2021-07-29T13:25:29","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:25:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=63987"},"modified":"2021-07-29T13:25:29","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:25:29","slug":"supreme-court-verdict-congresses-still-in-progress-says-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/supreme-court-verdict-congresses-still-in-progress-says-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme court verdict: Congresses still in progress, says APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Caretaker\/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that there is no cause for alarm over the supreme court decision on Ondo gubernatorial poll.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the apex court on Wednesday affirmed the election of Rotimi Akeredolu as Ondo state governor.<\/p>\n<p>Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the All Progressives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/apc-congress-lagos-to-adopt-consensus-candidates-gac\/\">Congress<\/a> won by a narrow-split decision of 4:3 in the seven-man panel of justices.<\/p>\n<p>Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had queried the validity of Akeredolu\u2019s nomination by the national caretaker committee of the APC headed by Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo called on the party to sack Buni and anyone holding any executive position on the committee and immediately suspend the planned congresses.<\/p>\n<p>Keyamo said the reason is to avoid legal battles, since the competence of Buni to hold the position has chairman has been questioned by the supreme court.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, said apex court\u2019s verdict on Ondo gubernatorial poll has \u201cno bearing on the CECPC\u2019s status and its membership\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe clarification is against the backdrop of personal opinions being expressed by some individuals on the status of the APC Caretaker\/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and its capacity to conduct the Congresses,\u201d Akpanudoedehe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it is not our intention to join issues with these commentators, the Supreme Court\u2019s Wednesday judgement affirming the Election victory of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN had no bearing on the CECPC\u2019s status and its membership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParty members and aspirants should therefore come out enmasse and peacefully to participate in the ward Congresses, come Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Caretaker\/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that there is no cause for alarm over the supreme court decision on Ondo gubernatorial poll.
