{"id":64811,"date":"2021-07-31T06:32:47","date_gmt":"2021-07-31T05:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=64811"},"modified":"2021-07-31T10:26:28","modified_gmt":"2021-07-31T09:26:28","slug":"how-nigeria-police-consistently-ignored-criminal-petitions-against-abba-kyari-activist-reveals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/31\/how-nigeria-police-consistently-ignored-criminal-petitions-against-abba-kyari-activist-reveals\/","title":{"rendered":"How Nigeria Police consistently ignored criminal petitions against Abba Kyari &#8211; Activist reveals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A human rights activist has revealed how the Nigeria Police Force consistently ignored several petitions sent about atrocities allegedly committed by embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, c.<\/p>\n<p>According to SaharaReporters, the source said the recent bribery allegation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not come as a surprise to human rights groups, who pioneered the majority of the petitions.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the United States Department of Justice had said ongoing investigations showed that Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, commonly known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2021\/07\/29\/hushpuppi-narrates-how-he-bribed-nigerian-top-cop-abba-kyari-in-1-1-million-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hushpuppi allegedly bribed Kyari<\/a>\u00a0to arrest one Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, one of his accomplices in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>In a court document released by the United States Department of Justice on Wednesday, titled: \u2018Six Indicted in International Scheme to Defraud Qatari School Founder and then Launder over $1 Million in Illicit Proceeds\u2019,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/how-abba-kyari-allegedly-used-someones-account-to-collect-money-from-hushpuppi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kyari<\/a>\u00a0was said to have been bribed to arrest one Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, 40, in Nigeria, who created bogus documents and arranged for the creation of a fake bank website and phone banking line to support the defrauding of a business person trying to provide $1.1m for the funding of a school in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>The source explained that many police units \u2014 including (Special Anti-Robbery Squad &amp; Intelligence Response Squad) &#8211; headed by Kyari have been indicted in recurring cases of killing \u2018wealthy\u2019 suspects in custody and taking over the property perceived to be proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the death of Michael Adiukwu, a former police officer who masterminded the Offa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/15\/three-feared-dead-as-dare-devil-armed-robbers-attack-bank-in-ondo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bank robbery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was alleged that Adiukwu was \u2018killed\u2019 in custody because he was in possession of the money robbed from the bank.<\/p>\n<p>The source also noted that a report by Amnesty International documented incidents of conversion of money and property of crime suspects arrested by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) under Abba Kyari by the operatives of the rogue unit.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the persistent petitions against the rogue activities of Abba Kyari&#8217;s IRT were part of what forced the then Inspector-General of Police to shut down the IGP IRT\/STS (Special Tactical Squad).<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cDo you remember the execution, in custody, of Adiukwu the Offa robbery mastermind? His co-accused said Adiukwu was in possession of the money they robbed from the banks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing new to us \u2014 Nigerian human rights groups \u2014 about the revelation by the US intelligence agency about Abba Kyari.
