{"id":64842,"date":"2021-07-31T07:28:11","date_gmt":"2021-07-31T06:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=64842"},"modified":"2021-07-31T07:30:03","modified_gmt":"2021-07-31T06:30:03","slug":"court-orders-apc-to-halt-congress-in-imo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/31\/court-orders-apc-to-halt-congress-in-imo\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders APC to halt congress in Imo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been ordered a federal capital territory (FCT) high court not to go ahead with its planned congress in Imo state.<\/p>\n<p>This order was given on Friday by the presiding judge, Valentine Oriji while ruling on a suit filed by the APC chairman of Ideato south LGA, Okey Anyikwa.<\/p>\n<p>The applicant had approached the court for an injunction restraining the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/30\/breaking-court-evicts-lai-mohammed-group-from-factional-apc-secretariat\/\">APC<\/a> from going ahead with Saturday\u2019s congresses because of the judgement of the appeal court that upheld the tenure of the state executives elected in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>After the proceedings, the judge ordered that all actions regarding the APC congresses in the state should be stayed, pending the hearing of the application slated for August 10.<\/p>\n<p>The judge also threatened to invalidate the outcome of the congresses if the party disregards the position of the court.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, party members like Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labour and employment, had called for the\u00a0suspension of the congresses\u00a0following the supreme court verdict on the Ondo gubernatorial poll.<\/p>\n<p>Keyamo had\u00a0asked the party\u00a0to sack Buni and anyone holding any executive position on the committee and immediately suspend the planned congresses.<\/p>\n<p>He said this is to avoid legal battles since the competence of Buni to hold the position of chairman has been questioned by the supreme court.<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy president of the senate, said the constitution does not prevent Buni from chairing the party\u2019s caretaker committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been ordered a federal capital territory (FCT) high court not to go ahead with its planned congress in Imo state.
