{"id":65666,"date":"2021-08-02T15:11:36","date_gmt":"2021-08-02T14:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=65666"},"modified":"2021-08-02T15:11:36","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T14:11:36","slug":"nigeria-receives-4m-doses-of-moderna-covid-vaccine-from-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/02\/nigeria-receives-4m-doses-of-moderna-covid-vaccine-from-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria receives 4m doses of Moderna COVID vaccine from US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>4.08m doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been received by the federal government of Nigeria from the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the vaccine had been approved by the<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for emergency use in Nigeria after examination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Premium Times, the vaccine\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">were delivered through the COVAX facility and arrived in Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT) around 2:15 am on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">The vaccine doses were received by the United Nations International Children\u2019s Emergency Fund (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/10\/nigeria-to-benefit-as-unicef-signs-agreement-to-deliver-220m-covid-vaccines-in-africa-on-it\/\">UNICEF<\/a>) on behalf of the federal government and stored at the country\u2019s National Strategic Cold Store near Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">While addressing the media on Monday morning in Abuja, Faisal Shuaib, director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), said the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, purchased 60 ultra-cold chain equipment ahead of the delivery and have since allocated one to each of the 36 states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">This is the second batch of vaccines received by Nigeria after the country had run out<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0of the initial four million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine received from the COVAX facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Shuaib, who announced that the vaccines had been exhausted, said the country was expecting three additional brands of the vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said the country has received communication for the delivery of 3.9 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, four million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, 3.5 million doses of Pfizer-Bio-N Tech COVID-19 vaccine, and 29.8 million doses of Johnson &amp; Johnson (Jassen) COVID-19 vaccine in coming weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>4.08m doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been received by the federal government of Nigeria from the United States.
