{"id":66591,"date":"2021-08-04T14:36:16","date_gmt":"2021-08-04T13:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=66591"},"modified":"2021-08-04T14:36:16","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T13:36:16","slug":"dcp-abba-kyari-removes-facebook-post-denying-hushpuppi-bribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/04\/dcp-abba-kyari-removes-facebook-post-denying-hushpuppi-bribe\/","title":{"rendered":"DCP Abba Kyari removes Facebook post denying Hushpuppi bribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Suspended commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari has removed a Facebook version of his statement in which he denied taking a bribe from Hushpuppi, the self-confessed international fraudster.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that US court documents had revealed that Hushpuppi whose real name is Ramon Abbas, claimed he bribed Kyari to arrest one Vincent Chibuzo, a co-fraudster.<\/p>\n<p>The socialite\u00a0alleged that he gave the top detective money to jail the rival after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.<\/p>\n<p>But the suspended police officer, Kyari denied any wrongdoing, saying he never collected money from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/04\/hushpuppi-kyari-appears-before-panel-mounts-defence-against-fbis-indictment\/\">Hushpuppi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kyari had proceeded to release a statement on his social handles narrating how he only connected the socialite to a fabric dealer whom Hushpuppi paid about N300,000.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had subsequently secured a court order for Kyari\u2019s arrest over the indictment while the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) set up a panel to probe his relationship with Hushpuppi.<\/p>\n<p>In the heat of developments, Kyari had altered the Facebook version of his statement to further include another money-related case he handled involving Hushpuppi.<\/p>\n<p>He also took out the part where he had earlier claimed to have linked Hushpuppi up with his tailor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody demanded or collected any money from Abbas Hushpuppi. He can be interviewed publicly in the presence of world media by the people holding him to confirm this,\u201d the now-deleted version read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe also called for another case in June 2020 and complained about a financial transaction with a second person whom he said his friend sent 8 million naira to and pleaded for his friends money to be recovered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe sent transaction slips and other evidences to prove their case against the person, all these can be verified from the Hushpuppi since he is still in custody.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it can be verified from person who collected the 8 million naira from Hushpuppi\u2019s friend whom they complained about is alive and is in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenerally what ever investigation steps\/tactics that is being taken in most cases especially on the parties in this type of case from January to June is not for public consumption.
