{"id":67354,"date":"2021-08-06T08:19:21","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T07:19:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=67354"},"modified":"2021-08-06T08:19:21","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T07:19:21","slug":"water-projects-ekiti-kaduna-to-benefit-from-700m-world-bank-loan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/06\/water-projects-ekiti-kaduna-to-benefit-from-700m-world-bank-loan\/","title":{"rendered":"Water projects: Ekiti, Kaduna to benefit from $700m World Bank loan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has disclosed that seven states will benefit from the first tier of the $700 million World Bank loan for specific water projects.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The states are Bauchi, Delta, Ekiti, Imo, Katsina, Kaduna and Plateau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was made known on Thursday by the water resources minister, Suleiman Adamu at the<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0weekly ministerial press briefing organised by the presidential communication team at the presidential villa, Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The World Bank in May approved a $700 million credit facility\u00a0that will help deliver improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services to 2,000 schools and health care facilities, and assist 500 communities to achieve open defecation-free status.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Adamu,<\/span>\u00a0the seven states will access between $50- $60 million each.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cSome certain criteria were set up by World Bank and the government. And the states had to meet the criteria. And the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/06\/fg-to-states-we-can-not-continue-as-father-christmas-on-water-projects\/\">projects<\/a> are submitted into tier one and tier two,\u201d Adamu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cTier one is for those that will get a substantial amount, maybe $50, $60 million for the urban schemes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFor the P-WASH (Plan \u2013 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Action Plan, is the rural component, and it is going to the state specifically.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cSome are going as a grant, while some of it is going to some specific projects. And like I said, there are eligible criteria that states ought to have met, it is not all the 36 states. There are conditions attached on which basis that this money is going to be disbursed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cSo the whole thing has not been finalised yet, but what we have is an approval in general from the World Bank specifically for this, there\u2019ll be some realignments here and there and that\u2019s something that we\u2019re going to be working on between our ministry, Ministry of Finance and the World Bank.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The minister said the federal government is working on 116 ongoing and abandoned water projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He added that 38 irrigation, 458 water supply schemes, 37 dams and reservoirs have been completed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has disclosed that seven states will benefit from the first tier of the $700 million World Bank loan for specific water projects.
