{"id":69453,"date":"2021-08-11T05:26:02","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T04:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=69453"},"modified":"2021-08-11T05:26:02","modified_gmt":"2021-08-11T04:26:02","slug":"secondus-led-nwc-turned-pdp-into-a-private-company-says-bode-george","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/11\/secondus-led-nwc-turned-pdp-into-a-private-company-says-bode-george\/","title":{"rendered":"Secondus-led NWC turned PDP into a &#8216;private company&#8217;, says Bode George"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George has stated that Uche Secondus-led national working committee (NWC) turned the party into a &#8220;private company&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the main opposition party has been battling with internal crisis over the past few days as\u00a0some party members called for the resignation of Secondus as national chairman.<\/p>\n<p>The party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/10\/breaking-pdp-to-hold-convention-earlier-than-scheduled-as-secondus-remains-chairman\/\">stakeholders<\/a> on Tuesday met in Abuja and proposed that the national convention earlier scheduled for December will take place in October.<\/p>\n<p>George, a PDP chieftain while speaking on the matter when he featured on Channels Television said the party has \u201cwoken\u201d up and is ready to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an elder, as a leader of this party, and as somebody who served for ten years at the NWC, I saw the platform of our party wobbling. You cannot do anything meaningful when your party is not stable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I will tell Nigerians is this: today is a special day in the annals of the PDP\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat the elders, having considered, having seen what is going on in the party, decided to save the party because the founding fathers have a certain mission and that mission is so vital for the Nigerian state. We have been giving very adequate solid issues on national matters and we did it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt (PDP) became so petty and so rowdy. When you disregard the ground norm, the constitution of the party, then what are you doing? You are translating it as if it is your private company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw this and I won\u2019t like to go further into the debris and filth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if those seeking the removal of Secondus are justified, he said: \u201cYes, absolutely. It is not a private company. We have the constitution of the party. Once you start driving yourself away from the norm, people will call you to order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George who is a member of the PDP board of trustees said\u00a0he was considering leaving the party before the intervention of the stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way they were managing the party fell short of seriousness.
