{"id":69867,"date":"2021-08-12T04:25:55","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T03:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=69867"},"modified":"2021-08-12T04:25:55","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T03:25:55","slug":"man-granted-divorce-after-wife-elopes-with-another-to-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/12\/man-granted-divorce-after-wife-elopes-with-another-to-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Man granted divorce after wife elopes with another to the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>40-year-old transporter, Mr Muri Olashiyan, has been granted divorce on grounds that his wife absconded with another man to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the Igando Customary Court in Lagos, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, on Wednesday, dissolved the union between Muri and Monisola Olashiyan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court hereby pronounces the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/12\/ilorin-court-remands-father-for-allegedly-giving-out-12-year-old-daughter-in-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">marriage<\/a> between Mr Muri Olashiyan and Mrs Monisola Olashiyan dissolved today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested; the court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe custody of the two children, age 10 and eight, is granted to their father since their mother, who is in a better position to take care of them, is out of the country,\u201d Koledoye said.<\/p>\n<p>According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olashiyan had on Dec. 15, 2020, approached the court to end his 11-year-old marriage, accusing his wife of abandoning her matrimonial home and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/31\/ugandan-teacher-arrested-for-eloping-with-his-16-year-old-student-and-impregnating-her\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eloping<\/a> with another man to London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife and I never had any misunderstanding or dispute, we both talked excitedly and she even cooked for me that morning before I left for work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I returned from work, I did not see her nor the children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried her phone, but it was switched off. The third day, I rushed to my mother-in-law\u2019s house to inform her of my wife and children\u2019s disappearance, but I found my children with her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI later discovered that she had travelled out of the country with her lover,\u201d the petitioner told the court.<\/p>\n<p>The embattled husband claimed that Monisola\u2019s mother aided her to abandon their matrimonial home and abscond with the man just because he was facing financial difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>Olashiyan alleged that his mother-in-law denies him access to his children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite collecting money from me regularly for the children\u2019s upkeep, my mother-in-law does not allow me to see them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been to her house several times with my family members and friends, begging her to allow me see my children, but she refused,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner, therefore, pleaded with the court to terminate his marriage with his wife and grant him custody of their two children.<\/p>\n<p>The respondent, who was duly notified of the suit against her, was not in court, and she did not send any legal representative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>40-year-old transporter, Mr Muri Olashiyan, has been granted divorce on grounds that his wife absconded with another man to the United Kingdom.
