{"id":70545,"date":"2021-08-13T14:16:13","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T13:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=70545"},"modified":"2021-08-13T14:16:13","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T13:16:13","slug":"jss-1-student-flogged-and-suspended-for-indecent-hairstyle-files-n15m-lawsuit-against-ekiti-state-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/13\/jss-1-student-flogged-and-suspended-for-indecent-hairstyle-files-n15m-lawsuit-against-ekiti-state-government\/","title":{"rendered":"JSS 1 student flogged and suspended for indecent hairstyle files N15m lawsuit against Ekiti state government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gift Agenoisa, a JSS 1 student who claims\u00a0to have been picked out during her school&#8217;s\u00a0assembly on May 22 and given 20 lashes over an &#8220;indecent hairstyle&#8221;\u00a0on the order of the principal who also suspended her, has filed a lawsuit against Ekiti state government.<\/p>\n<p>The student of Immaculate Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/08\/1326-fail-bar-exam-as-nigerian-law-school-releases-2021-results\/\">claimed<\/a> her suspension infringed on her rights.<\/p>\n<p>The student who approached an Ado-Ekiti\u00a0 High Court through her mother Odunayo Agenoisa,\u00a0is seeking N15 million in damages for breach of her \u201cfundamental rights\u201d and an immediate reinstatement to school with unfettered access to all services.<\/p>\n<p>The school principal, Oluwasanmi F.M, the education commissioner Olabimpe Aderiye, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission and Ekiti state government are joined as defendants in the case.<\/p>\n<p>The student who claimed she had\u00a0bruises, life-threatening scars and bloodstains on her uniform,\u00a0added that she fainted and was rushed to the police clinic in Ado- Ekiti\u00a0where she was resuscitated.<\/p>\n<p>Agenoisa filed the lawsuit\u00a0after her letters of protest to the wife of Ekiti Governor and some relevant government agencies were not responded to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gift Agenoisa, a JSS 1 student who claims\u00a0to have been picked out during her school&#8217;s\u00a0assembly on May 22 and given 20 lashes over an &#8220;indecent hairstyle&#8221;\u00a0on the order of the principal who also suspended her, has filed a lawsuit against Ekiti state government.
