{"id":70881,"date":"2021-08-14T07:07:16","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T06:07:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=70881"},"modified":"2021-08-14T07:07:16","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T06:07:16","slug":"fg-drags-resident-doctors-to-court-over-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/14\/fg-drags-resident-doctors-to-court-over-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"FG drags resident doctors to court over strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has filed a case before the National Industrial Court against the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) over the strike embarked upon by the health workers.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Friday by the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the resident doctors had commenced the strike on<span style=\"text-transform: initial\">\u00a0August 1 over \u201cirregular payment of salaries\u201d, among other issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"51\">\n<p>Efforts by the house of representatives to reach a new agreement between the federal government and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/09\/doctors-strike-nard-president-calls-for-sacking-of-ngige-ehanire\/\">NARD<\/a> ended in a deadlock on Tuesday despite a meeting that lasted six hours.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige on Thursday had also accused the resident doctors of trying to &#8220;play God&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the court action taken by the federal government, Ngige said most of the demands by the resident doctors have been met, but efforts to get them to call off the strike had \u201cfailed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhereas trade dispute has arisen and now exists between NARD and the Federal Ministry of Health\/Federal Government and whereas efforts to promote settlement through conciliation were ongoing but had now failed,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering the facts that members of NARD who are classified as essential services workers\/employees had embarked on strike on Aug. 2, over the issues under conciliation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dContrary to the provisions of Section 18 of the Trade Disputes Act CAP T8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004, after attending a Conciliation and Agreement Review meeting on July 22.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dFurther considering that the Federal Ministry of Health claims to have and produced evidence to have met most of their demands based on the various Memorandum of Action reached during past conciliations, especially that of July 22.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow therefore, I , Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 17 of the Trades Disputes Act , CAP T8 laws of the Federation of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018I, hereby refer the matter for consideration, and the issues in dispute to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria for adjudication.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has filed a case before the National Industrial Court against the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) over the strike embarked upon by the health workers.
