{"id":71124,"date":"2021-08-14T20:46:35","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T19:46:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=71124"},"modified":"2021-08-14T20:46:35","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T19:46:35","slug":"inec-cautions-against-fake-recruitment-adverts-on-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/14\/inec-cautions-against-fake-recruitment-adverts-on-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC cautions against fake recruitment adverts on social media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to beware of fake recruitment adverts circulating on social media.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the INEC national commissioner, Festus Okoye.<\/p>\n<p>According to INEC,<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0it had previously warned of \u201cfake employment merchants and racketeers who open fake employment websites and issue fake employment letters purporting to be acting on behalf of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/14\/ebonyi-governor-receives-report-on-communal-crisis\/\">commission<\/a>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Okoye further stated that<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0scammers are recirculating INEC\u2019s old advertisement for recruitment on social media platforms with the intention to \u201clure and dupe unsuspecting members of the public with attractive offers of employment\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe commission unequivocally dissociates itself from the antics of these scammers and fake employment merchants and reiterates the fact that its recruitment portal is no longer active and was shut down the moment the commission suspended its recruitment exercise,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt will be recalled that on the 30th of May 2020 and 31st December 2020, the commission issued a statement drawing the attention of the public to the circulation of purported letters of employment\/appointment allegedly emanating from it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>We had informed members of the public that the recruitment exercise has been suspended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe commission will continue to conduct its activities in the best tradition of openness and transparency. This policy of transparency informs the wide publicity given to its recruitment drive any time the commission embarks on such.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe advise the public to discountenance all rumours of recruitment by the commission and treat letters of employment\/recruitment purportedly emanating from the commission as a scam.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to beware of fake recruitment adverts circulating on social media.
