{"id":71987,"date":"2021-08-17T03:59:14","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T02:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=71987"},"modified":"2021-08-17T03:59:14","modified_gmt":"2021-08-17T02:59:14","slug":"man-tackles-bowen-varsity-over-daughters-death-during-devotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/17\/man-tackles-bowen-varsity-over-daughters-death-during-devotion\/","title":{"rendered":"Man tackles Bowen varsity over daughter\u2019s death during devotion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The management of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has been accused of lying about the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old student, Precious Lawani.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that Precious was admitted for a Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board programme in the institution.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH,\u00a0 the grieving father,\u00a0 Engineer Kassim Lawani said barely a month after her resumption of studies, the varsity chaplain, one Dr Larry, led a delegation to his house in the Rumukwurushi area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to break the news of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/11\/south-african-student-falls-to-her-death-from-13th-floor-in-china-two-months-to-graduation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">daughter\u2019s death<\/a> to him.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased&#8217;s father stated that the delegates claimed that his daughter died shortly after she was found convulsing in the hostel due to an illness that prevented her from leading prayers during the morning devotion.<\/p>\n<p>The civil engineer also stated that the delegates indicated the varsity\u2019s readiness to take care of her burial expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The family was said to have agreed with the proposed burial arrangement, but demanded an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/12\/family-to-conduct-autopsy-on-mohammed-fawehinmi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autopsy<\/a> to ascertain the cause of the teenager\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Her father said the matter took another turn when the family visited the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile our relatives were talking to some of my daughter\u2019s colleagues who witnessed the incident, they said Precious actually led the prayer on the fateful day, and that while all of them closed their eyes in prayers, they heard a loud bang.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs they quickly opened their eyes, they discovered that Precious had fallen some meters below a narrow corridor in front of the hostel, where the prayer session was being held.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the students rushed down to see what might have happened, they discovered that she had a cracked skull; she was eventually taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy report revealed that the victim died from \u201cintracranial haemorrhage, skull fracture, blunt force trauma to the head.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The time and date of death were stated as 7am, December 5, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Kassim said when the school management was confronted with the report, the family was informed that the varsity had equally conducted an internal investigation.<\/p>\n<p>However, it reportedly refused to share the report of the investigation with the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school claimed that Precious was found convulsing on the floor of the hostel prior to her death, but she never had any history of convulsion. The school promised to release my daughter\u2019s medical record to the family, but refused to do so till date. What is Bowen University hiding?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey volunteered to bury her in the school cemetery with all expenses to be taken care of by the school. We were in shock and had no choice, but to agree. We had no reason whatsoever to doubt the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the mystery, the disparities, the lies, and the suspected cover-up by the school on the real cause of Precious\u2019 death opened up the real reason for the school\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBowen University never wanted us to discover the real cause of my daughter\u2019s death. It chose not to call us immediately after she died because we would have visited the school and upon discovering her cracked skull would have demanded answers,\u201d an enraged Kassim added.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Bowen University, Toba Adaramola, said, \u201cThe situation is regrettable; nobody will ever wish for something like that to happen.
