{"id":72163,"date":"2021-08-17T13:36:14","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T12:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=72163"},"modified":"2021-08-17T14:57:30","modified_gmt":"2021-08-17T13:57:30","slug":"court-dissolves-clergymans-marriage-over-wifes-stubbornness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/17\/court-dissolves-clergymans-marriage-over-wifes-stubbornness\/","title":{"rendered":"Court dissolves clergyman\u2019s marriage over wife\u2019s stubbornness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Tuesday, dissolved the 20-year-old marriage of a clergyman, Chijoke Ogu, over his wife\u2019s alleged stubbornness.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering judgment, President of the Court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, said since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court was left with no option than to grant his prayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mr Chijoke and Chineye Ogu dissolved today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth of you henceforth, cease to be husband and wife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested. The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Koledoye ordered the petitioner to take responsibility for the upkeep and education of their only child.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court ordered Chijoke to pay a severance allowance of N250,000 to his wife to enable her to move on with her life.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in his petition, Chijoke told the court to end his 20-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/09\/how-i-survived-early-marriage-aisha-buhari\/\">marriage<\/a> claiming his wife was stubborn and never obeys his instructions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter our baby was delivered, she insisted her mother must visit. I disagreed with her because her mother would be a burden on us because she was old and sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBesides, I don\u2019t have money to give her mother or buy things when she will be leaving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe disobeyed me and eventually sent for her mother without my consent, she stayed with us for two months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter her mother left, my mother came but my wife put up a different attitude and denied her food on so many occasions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI travelled to her hometown to report to her family but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/25\/archbishop-idahosa-did-not-raise-any-dead-mother-church-of-god-mission-denies-clergymans-story\/\">she<\/a> refused to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her defence, she denied being stubborn but said that it was her right to choose who stayed to help her after she was delivered of a baby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our custom that the wife\u2019s mother comes to assist in taking care of the baby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dHe initially suggested that his older sister come to stay with me.
