{"id":72278,"date":"2021-08-17T19:06:14","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T18:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=72278"},"modified":"2021-08-17T19:06:14","modified_gmt":"2021-08-17T18:06:14","slug":"water-project-afdb-excludes-nigerian-company-for-18-months-over-fraudulent-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/17\/water-project-afdb-excludes-nigerian-company-for-18-months-over-fraudulent-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Water project: AfDB excludes Nigerian company for 18 months over \u2018fraudulent practices\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has announced 18-month exclusion of Sargittarius Nigeria Limited, an engineering company and its affiliates with effect from July 28, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The group listed <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sargittarius Henan Water Conservancy Engineering Limited as one of the company\u2019s affiliates debarred from participating in AfDB- financed projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Bank in April excluded Maxicare Company (Nigeria) Limited, another Nigerian<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0company, for alleged fraudulent practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>AfDB in a statement released on Tuesday said <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sargittarius\u2019 debarment was instituted after its office of integrity and anti-corruption conducted an investigation and established fraudulent practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The company was said to have engaged in the act during tenders for the construction of water infrastructure in Ibadan, Nigeria, under the Urban Water Supply and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/25\/2021-utme-benue-govt-cancels-sanitation-exercise\/\">Sanitation<\/a> Improvement Project in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe debarment renders Sargittarius Nigeria Limited and its affiliates ineligible to participate in Bank Group-financed projects during the debarment period,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAdditionally, the debarment qualifies for cross-debarment by other multilateral development banks under the Agreement for Mutual Enforcement of Debarment Decisions, including the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank Group.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAt the expiry of the debarment period, Sargittarius Nigeria Limited will only be eligible to resume participation in African Development Bank Group-financed projects on the condition that it implements an integrity compliance program consistent with the Bank\u2019s guidelines.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">AfDB said the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project is aimed at improving access to safe water supply and sanitation services in the cities of Ibadan and Jalingo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It noted that the project was co-financed by the African Development Fund, an entity of the AfDB, and the Nigerian government.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has announced 18-month exclusion of Sargittarius Nigeria Limited, an engineering company and its affiliates with effect from July 28, 2021.
