{"id":72814,"date":"2021-08-18T20:06:38","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T19:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=72814"},"modified":"2021-08-18T20:06:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T19:06:38","slug":"obasanjo-reveals-sickness-he-has-been-battling-with-for-35-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/18\/obasanjo-reveals-sickness-he-has-been-battling-with-for-35-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Obasanjo reveals sickness he has been battling with for 35 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed the sickness he has been battling with for the past 35 years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/15\/obasanjo-visits-abiodun-condoles-him-over-dads-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obasanjo<\/a> disclosed that he has been battling diabetes for the past 35 years at the closing ceremony of the Ogun State Diabetes Youth Development Camp, held in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, August 18.<\/p>\n<p>The 84-year-old who reiterated that diabetes is not a killer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/15\/nafdac-investigates-cause-of-strange-disease-among-kano-residents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disease<\/a>, told children to abstain from consuming sugar, foods with carbohydrates and always take their insulin injection in order to manage the disease well.<\/p>\n<p>He said; \u201cI have been diagnosed of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/29\/nafdac-cautions-nigerians-against-circulation-of-fake-insulin-tea-for-diabetes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diabetes<\/a> for more than 35 years now and here I am, I\u2019m still going about, I\u2019m still jumping up and down, I\u2019m still doing many things many people of my age cannot do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince I was diagnosed of diabetes, a number of my friends have died and the reason is because they just did not manage their diabetes the way they should manage it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not matter whether you are type one or type two, so far there is no cure for diabetes, maybe there will be cure before I die, but I pray that there will be cure before you die.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to understand the type of food you should eat, you must completely abstain from sugar. The amount of carbohydrates that you take must be watched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t miss your drugs, in your own case, your insulin injection, I take my drugs along with me everywhere I go and I always check my blood sugar level regularly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t let anybody put fear in your minds, diabetes, has no cure for now, but it can be managed.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed the sickness he has been battling with for the past 35 years.
