{"id":74215,"date":"2021-08-23T06:43:49","date_gmt":"2021-08-23T05:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=74215"},"modified":"2021-08-23T06:43:49","modified_gmt":"2021-08-23T05:43:49","slug":"fg-to-explore-us-finance-corporation-fund-for-infrastructural-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/23\/fg-to-explore-us-finance-corporation-fund-for-infrastructural-development\/","title":{"rendered":"FG to explore US finance corporation fund for infrastructural development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has stated that the federal government will explore the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in sourcing fund for its infrastructural development.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was made on Saturday by Lai Mohammed in Washington after a meeting with Johnnie Carson, a senior advisor at the United States Institute for Peace.<\/p>\n<p>The DFC is the development finance institution of the US federal government, primarily responsible for providing and facilitating the financing of private development projects in lower and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n<p>The minister further stated that\u00a0the decision was informed by the suggestion made by Carson, a former US assistant secretary of state for African affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my brief, I explained to ambassador Carson that it will appear most of the infrastructural development in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/22\/apostle-okikijesu-releases-scary-prophecies-about-nigeria-music-stars-actors-and-others\/\">Nigeria<\/a> today is being funded by either a loan and facility and I can see that the US is missing out,\u201d Mohammed said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe responded that there is good news because the last administration approved the DFC which only guarantees loans for developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said DFC also go further to make funding available for certain projects in developing countries and even allow them to take equity in funding of some projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c So, I told him we are going to pursue this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will discuss this with my colleague, the minister of finance because what the ambassador is saying is that this is another opportunity we need to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the meeting with the US diplomat, who had served as his country\u2019s ambassador to several African nations, afforded him the opportunity to present a number of social, economic and security issues relating to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI presented what progress we have made in the area of fighting banditry, insurgency, COVID-19, corruption and correct the fake news that Muslims are persecuting Christians,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo him, it was like preaching to the converted because he has broad knowledge about Africa, Nigeria in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister is in the US to engage with various global media outlets, global think-tanks and influencers.<\/p>\n<p>The engagement is to enable the minister put across \u201cthe correct narratives\u201d about what is happening in Nigeria, showcase government achievements and present challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has stated that the federal government will explore the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in sourcing fund for its infrastructural development.
