{"id":75213,"date":"2021-08-25T21:52:38","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T20:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=75213"},"modified":"2021-08-25T21:52:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-25T20:52:38","slug":"we-have-zero-tolerance-for-sexual-harassment-oau-vc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/25\/we-have-zero-tolerance-for-sexual-harassment-oau-vc\/","title":{"rendered":"We have zero-tolerance for sexual harassment \u2013 OAU VC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has said the institution has zero tolerance towards any form of sexual harassment and other social vices on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Ogunbodede said this at the launching of the anti-sexual harassment policy of the institution on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the university found the policy imperative in creating a safe learning environment for all, even as no community was devoid of deviants.<\/p>\n<p>Ogunbodede noted, however, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/29\/oau-final-year-student-dies-in-an-auto-crash-in-osun\/\">OAU<\/a> would continue to strengthen its resolve against sex-related vices.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Bisi Fayemi, urged every tertiary institution across the country to emulate Obafemi Awolowo University by having a policy on sexual harassment and a zero-tolerance culture.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that every tertiary institution leadership needed to demonstrate its unwillingness to condone a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/01\/fuoye-suspends-lecturer-over-alleged-sexual-harassment\/\">culture of abuse<\/a>, silence and impunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere there are policies in place to prevent and deal with sexual harassment, they should be implemented to the fullest extent possible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Fayemi urged other tertiary institutions to adopt the policy and work towards establishing models of good practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has said the institution has zero tolerance towards any form of sexual harassment and other social vices on campus.
