{"id":75320,"date":"2021-08-26T08:40:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-26T07:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=75320"},"modified":"2021-08-26T08:40:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T07:40:00","slug":"fiscal-commission-frsc-failed-to-remit-n5-1bn-into-federation-account-in-four-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/26\/fiscal-commission-frsc-failed-to-remit-n5-1bn-into-federation-account-in-four-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Fiscal commission: FRSC failed to remit N5.1bn into federation account in four years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has alleged that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) failed to remit N5.1 billion into the federation account.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The unremitted fund is said to be part of the revenue generated by the agency between 2016 and 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This allegation was made on Wednesday by FRC at the <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ongoing public hearing on 2022 to 2024 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) in Abuja\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The public hearing is organised by the house of representatives committee on finance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The director of policy and standard, fiscal responsbility commission, Alex Alekwo while speaking at the event said<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> there is no evidence that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/do-not-tempt-us-with-bribe-police-frsc-beg-nigerians\/\">FRSC<\/a> remitted the money\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He added that the non-remittance of the funds can be obtained from the audited financial report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the allegation, FRSC corps marshal, Boboye Opeyemi denied it and stated that<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the funds have been remitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Oyeyemi asked the committee to give FRSC the needed time to reconcile with the FRC over the allegation.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said there had been no budgetary provision for the production of plate numbers since the inception of the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to him, some of the machines to produce plate numbers were funded from the proceed of operating surpluses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He stated that what the corps remitted to the federation account was what it got after the production of plate numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In his remarks, James Faleke, chairman of the committee, decried poor revenue generation by some agencies, saying it is the biggest problem confronting the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said there had been no budgetary provision for the production of plate numbers since the inception of the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to him, some of the machines to produce plate numbers were funded from the proceed of operating surpluses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He stated that what the corps remitted to the federation account was what it got after the production of plate numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In his remarks, James Faleke, chairman of the committee, decried poor revenue generation by some agencies, saying it is the biggest problem confronting the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe saw where an agency is spending N3 billion above its income, we saw where they spend money not budgeted for,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhere this committee sees it necessary, we will expunge unnecessary budgetary provision in order to shore up revenue for the country to forestall unnecessary borrowing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>FRC in May announced that<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a032 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">) failed to remit over N1.2 trillion <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of their operating surplus to the consolidated revenue fund (CRF).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The commission explained that government agencies are expected to remit 80 percent of their operating surplus to the CRF according to the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has alleged that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) failed to remit N5.1 billion into the federation account.
