{"id":76123,"date":"2021-08-28T14:31:01","date_gmt":"2021-08-28T13:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=76123"},"modified":"2021-08-28T14:31:01","modified_gmt":"2021-08-28T13:31:01","slug":"zainab-ahmed-narrates-how-fg-recovered-n49bn-debt-from-contractors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/28\/zainab-ahmed-narrates-how-fg-recovered-n49bn-debt-from-contractors\/","title":{"rendered":"Zainab Ahmed narrates how FG recovered N49bn debt from contractors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed has stated that the federal government has recovered N49.7 billion debt owed to it by contractors and other third parties.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the recovery was\u00a0through Project Lighthouse, out of N5.2 trillion worth of debts<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Friday in Abuja by the minister at the\u00a0Executive Intelligence Management Course 14 of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), themed, \u2018Security and Sustainable Development in Africa: Nexus, Challenges and Prospects\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She said the project was one of the initiatives spearheaded by the finance ministry and its agencies, in line with the present administration\u2019s commitment to sustainable development, governance and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/28\/insecurity-zamfara-gov-orders-closure-of-markets\/\">security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProject Lighthouse is a data driven artificial intelligence engine that provides the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning with an intelligence and profiling platform to aid in policy formulation, implementation and impact assessment,\u201d Ahmed explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt enables the aggregation of data from a variety of sources to give us the capability to develop an intelligent data-driven revenue mobilisation model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yunusa Abdullahi, Ahmed\u2019s spokesperson, in a statement, quoted the minister as saying that the second phase of implementation of Project Lighthouse has been approved by the federal executive council.<\/p>\n<p>On tackling insecurity in the country, Ahmed said security agencies were prioritised in the allocation of limited revenues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an example, about 86 percent of the 2021 Supplementary Budget was dedicated to the capital and recurrent expenditure needs of the security agencies to supplement the allocations in the 2021 Amended Budget,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She further described the\u00a05.01 percent economic growth\u00a0for the second quarter of 2021 as \u201cvery encouraging news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to her, it indicates that the Nigerian economy is on a solid path to recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to note that much of the growth was driven by the expansion of the non-oil sector of the economy where most Nigerians are employed,\u201d Ahmed added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed has stated that the federal government has recovered N49.7 billion debt owed to it by contractors and other third parties.
