{"id":76602,"date":"2021-08-30T13:48:58","date_gmt":"2021-08-30T12:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=76602"},"modified":"2021-08-30T13:48:58","modified_gmt":"2021-08-30T12:48:58","slug":"commerical-activities-grounded-in-imo-despite-cancellation-of-sit-at-home-order-by-ipob","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/30\/commerical-activities-grounded-in-imo-despite-cancellation-of-sit-at-home-order-by-ipob\/","title":{"rendered":"Commerical activities grounded in Imo despite cancellation of sit-at-home order by IPOB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the cancellation of the sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), commercial activities such as trading, transportation and others were grounded on Monday in major parts of Owerri.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the proscribed group, IPOB on July 30 ordered a\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">sit-at-home in the south-east every Monday until Nnamdi Kanu, its leader is released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the group on August 14 announced a suspension of the order.<\/p>\n<p>But two weeks later, business activities are still grounded every Monday out of fear of the unknown.<\/p>\n<p>According to TheCable,\u00a0major roads that used to see a beehive of activities in Owerri were deserted with a few vehicles plying the roads.<\/p>\n<p>Also, shops in Okigwe road, Wetheral road and Bank road were under lock, while banks in some parts of the state were not open for business on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Chibuike Norom, a shop owner in Owerri, told TheCable that the order had caused a setback on economic activities.<\/p>\n<p>Norom asked residents in the state to have a \u201crethink in order not to jeopardise the economy of the south-east\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But a newspaper vendor who identified himself simply as Ifeanyi, expressed delight in the compliance with the sit-at-home order, adding that it is in solidarity with Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Kanu was arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria.
