{"id":77068,"date":"2021-08-31T16:14:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-31T15:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=77068"},"modified":"2021-08-31T16:14:24","modified_gmt":"2021-08-31T15:14:24","slug":"forex-ban-cbn-directs-banks-to-publish-names-of-defaulters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/31\/forex-ban-cbn-directs-banks-to-publish-names-of-defaulters\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex ban: CBN directs banks to publish names of defaulters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria has directed all commercial banks to publish on their websites the names and Bank Verification Numbers of customers who engage in fraudulent and unscrupulous practices to obtain foreign exchange from banks.<\/p>\n<p>In a circular issued by the on Tuesday, the bank outlined the fraudulent practices to include the use of fake visas and cancellation of air tickets after purchase of Personal Travel Allowance and Business Travel Allowance<\/p>\n<p>The bank said the new directive was given to curb the unwholesome conduct of some unscrupulous customers who are trying to circumvent its new forex policy.<\/p>\n<p>The circular which was addressed to all banks was titled, \u201cPublication of names of Defaulters of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/20\/cbn-to-banks-block-accounts-of-premier-lotto-company-and-17-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBN<\/a> policy on sale of Forex for PTA\/BTA\u201d and signed by the bank\u2019s Director, Banking Supervision Department, Haruna Mustafa.<\/p>\n<p>The circular read in full, \u201c The CBN has received and noted with concern reports of sharp practices by some unscrupulous customers to circumvent the new CBN policy on the sale of forex for overseas personal and business travel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of these unwholesome practices include the use of fake visas and cancellation of air tickets after purchase of PTA\/BTA.
