{"id":77810,"date":"2021-09-02T12:46:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T11:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=77810"},"modified":"2021-09-02T12:46:50","modified_gmt":"2021-09-02T11:46:50","slug":"man-posts-estranged-wifes-pictures-on-pornhub-then-burns-her-to-death-in-her-bedroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/02\/man-posts-estranged-wifes-pictures-on-pornhub-then-burns-her-to-death-in-her-bedroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Man posts estranged wife&#8217;s pictures on Pornhub then burns her to death in her bedroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>45-year-old Damion Simmons, who didn&#8217;t want his estranged wife, Denise Keane-Simmons, 36, to keep or see friends, poured litres of petrol over her before setting her on fire at her home in Brent, north-west London, on April 16, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The police disclosed that the victim was found on her bedroom floor in Alric Avenue with extensive burns and smoke inhalation, and was pronounced dead in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they attended the property 40 minutes before he carried out the \u2018calculated\u2019 killing as the victim had reported threatening messages from her estranged husband that said he had put pictures of her on PornHub.<\/p>\n<p>She also reported discovering he had hidden a camera in a lightbulb in her bedroom.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77814\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-2-86x64.jpg 86w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a statement to police officers she called over on the night of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/24\/security-forces-kill-6-bandits-who-murdered-police-irt-officers-in-plateau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">murder<\/a>, Mrs Keane-Simmons, who worked as a teaching assistant, said: \u2018I feel anxious about leaving my house as his behaviour is so unpredictable and just want to live my life without that worry of Damion.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>But less than an hour after the police left, Simmons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/17\/two-die-14-buses-burnt-in-anambra-tanker-explosion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">burnt<\/a> down the house.<\/p>\n<p>The couple had met in Trinidad where they married in February 2019, and Simmons then relocated to the UK to move in with his wife.<\/p>\n<p>But their relationship became strained because he wanted Mrs Keane-Simmons to change her behaviour and stop seeing friends.<\/p>\n<p>Hours before the murder, the man posted an intimate picture of her on Instagram along with her maiden name, job and the school where she worked.<\/p>\n<p>In a WhatsApp voice message he then sent to his ex-wife, he said: \u2018I hope you suffer and die just like how I suffer and die before I go. I really hope you suffer and die.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>On the same night of her death, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/18\/cctv-captures-suspect-withdrawing-money-from-bank-account-of-slain-unilorin-student-olajide-omowumi-blessing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CCTV<\/a> captured Simmons buying five and a half litres of fuel from a nearby petrol station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77812\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/09\/kunlenet07\/2021\/09\/02\/Damion-Simmons-3-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Further CCTV footage showed him pouring petrol through the letterbox of the victim\u2019s address and smashing a window to get inside, with the fire igniting 30 seconds later.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons, was convicted of murder and arson with intent to endanger life at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, September 1.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant denied murder, claiming he had not intended to harm Mrs Keane-Simmons but that she had died accidentally when he was trying to kill himself in front of her.<\/p>\n<p>He later admitted making a series of internet searches, including Crown Prosecution Service guidance on defences in law for murder and \u2018best way to use a knife and kill someone\u2019, but said he had no intention of doing that.<\/p>\n<p>He said all these despite jurors being told at the beginning of the trial that he had admitted manslaughter.<\/p>\n<p>He had previously pleaded guilty to disclosing private and sexual photographs with intent to cause distress.<\/p>\n<p>Detective chief inspector Neil John said after the verdict that the defendant\u2019s behaviour \u2018epitomises extreme domestic violence\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018My thoughts remain with Denise\u2019s family and friends and I hope today\u2019s outcome can offer them some degree of comfort, knowing that her killer has been brought to justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Denise was clearly loved by all, and this tragic incident has affected many people far and wide.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The actions of Damion Simmons that night were calculated, and the jury have come to the conclusion that he set out that night not to kill himself, as he claimed, but to kill Denise.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018His actions were both selfish and reckless.
