{"id":78492,"date":"2021-09-04T07:56:51","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T06:56:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=78492"},"modified":"2021-09-04T07:56:51","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T06:56:51","slug":"dpr-shuts-nine-lpg-plants-over-illegal-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/04\/dpr-shuts-nine-lpg-plants-over-illegal-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"DPR shuts nine LPG plants over illegal operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has stated that it has shut nine Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants in Lagos state over illegal operations.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Friday by the DPR&#8217;s assistant director of operations, Lagos zonal office, <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Olubunmi Ogundare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Ogundare,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the move is part of the agency\u2019s oversight duty of monitoring activities of companies operating within the industry across the value chain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The agency said the affected cooking gas plants did not comply with the prerequisite safety standards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ogundare said the sealed gas plants are located at Idimu, Ikotun Egbe, Ipaja and Igando axis in Alimosho LGA of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The DPR official said the LPG plants were shut for various reasons, including operating within densely populated areas and other unapproved locations for gas business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">She said three persons were arrested by officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/30\/nscdc-dismisses-viral-video-of-alleged-attack-on-personnel-in-anambra\/\">(NSCDC)<\/a> which collaborated with the DPR in the exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThose identified illegal LPG facilities contravened the DPR guidelines for the establishment of LPG refilling plants and retailers outlets in Nigeria,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cYou cannot operate LPG plant without applying for pertinent approval from DPR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFor you to get this approval, you must go through three phases which take place in stages from setting up the LPG facility, construction and commencement of operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe three approvals are site suitability, approval to construct and licence to operate. If you don\u2019t have these pertinent approvals, you are not supposed to operate an LPG facility in Nigeria.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ogundare disclosed that a total of 59 illegal gas plants had been sealed by the DPR from January to June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">She said the surveillance would help to<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">sanitise LPG facilities in Lagos state by enforcing standards in their operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The DPR urged Nigerians to report any illegal and unsafe LPG facility within their locality to DPR for necessary action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Recall that DPR on July 6 sealed off 103 filling stations and 13 LPG plants in Lagos for alleged illegal operations.<\/p>\n<p>The agency sealed another 30 filling stations and eight LPG outlets for a similar reason in Akwa Ibom.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The DPR had charged managers of LPG plants and fuel stations to ensure safety in their facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has stated that it has shut nine Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants in Lagos state over illegal operations.
