{"id":78878,"date":"2021-09-05T10:42:24","date_gmt":"2021-09-05T09:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=78878"},"modified":"2021-09-05T10:42:24","modified_gmt":"2021-09-05T09:42:24","slug":"more-than-150-people-have-died-of-cholera-in-katsina-says-yahaya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/05\/more-than-150-people-have-died-of-cholera-in-katsina-says-yahaya\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 150 people have died of cholera in Katsina, says Yahaya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Executive Secretary of Katsina Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), Shamsudeen Yahaya\u00a0has disclosed that more than 150 people have died of cholera in the state.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yahaya, at least 5,677 cases have been reported since the outbreak of the cholera epidemic in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Yahaya said the figures were gathered from hospitals and other primary health care centres in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He said the casualty figure could be higher since some victims, particularly those in the rural areas, do not visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/11\/man-who-planned-to-wed-next-week-dies-of-gunshot-wound-because-ibadan-hospitals-demanded-police-report\/\">hospitals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He advised residents to avoid unhygienic practices, dumping of refuse indiscriminately, and endeavour to eat only healthy food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like it is happening in some parts of the country, we still have cholera cases in Katsina state. And as you all know, the disease goes high during the rainy season,\u201d Yahaya said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs at Thursday, September 2, we had 5,677 cases of cholera covering the 34 local government areas of the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all have a role to play at the family and community levels because that is the most important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people engage in indiscriminate dumping of refuse, indiscriminate open defecation, there must be a spread of diseases like cholera.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Executive Secretary of Katsina Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), Shamsudeen Yahaya\u00a0has disclosed that more than 150 people have died of cholera in the state.
