{"id":79044,"date":"2021-09-05T22:42:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-05T21:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=79044"},"modified":"2021-09-05T22:42:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-05T21:42:53","slug":"presidency-lists-many-jinxes-broken-by-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/05\/presidency-lists-many-jinxes-broken-by-buhari\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidency lists \u2018many jinxes\u2019 broken by Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidency has listed the achievements of the Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s administration since 2015, describing them as many jinxes broken under his leadership.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari has ended tracks of erstwhile impossibles, including signing the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) into law.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, among the jinxes broken include the President\u2019s recent declaration of N287 billion profit after tax by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which was the first in the over 40 years of the corporation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/05\/buhari-directs-establishment-of-farm-estates-in-108-senatorial-districts-across-nigeria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buhari<\/a> administration launched the first National Social Investment Programme in the country\u2019s history and is today the largest Social Investment Programme in Africa and one of the largest in the world.<\/p>\n<p>He also mentioned the restoration of the federal budget to a January-to-December cycle, after more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinance Acts 2019 and 2020 \u2013 the first time ever that Federal Budgets are being accompanied by dedicated and specific reform legislation, to support implementation. Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018: Another unprecedented piece of legislation in Nigeria. Treasury Single Account (TSA) started in 2012, expanded across the entire Government by President Buhari\u201d, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>On projects, he said Buhari is the first President to start and complete a rail project in Nigeria\u2019s history, citing the Lagos-Ibadan rail project.<\/p>\n<p>Also listed as jinxes broken by the President are the successful completion of 12 inherited Dam projects across the country, including Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam, Taraba; Ogwashi-Uku Multipurpose Dam, Delta; Adada Dam, Enugu; Sulma Earth Dam, Katsina; Gimi Earth Dam, Kaduna; Amla-Otukpo Dam, Benue; Amauzari Earth Dam, Imo; Ibiono-Ibom Earth Dam, Akwa Ibom; Gadau\/Lafia Zigau Dam, Bauchi; Alajue Small Earth Dam, Osun; Kampe Omi Dam, Kogi (Rehabilitation) and Kargo Dam, Kaduna (rehabilitation).<\/p>\n<p>The list included: \u201cPetroleum Industry Bill signed into law in 2021, after almost two decades in the works. It is aimed at reforming a Petroleum Act dating back to 1969, as well as other supplementary laws and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeep Offshore and Inland Basin (Production Sharing Contracts) Act, 2019, amended for the first time since 1993.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 6 billion dollars of inherited Cash Call Arrears now being cleared by the Buhari Administration, since 2016. More than 3 billion dollars of the arrears (payments due to International Oil Companies) have since been paid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Buhari Administration has overseen the first successful Marginal Fields Bid Round in almost 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Buhari Administration has launched the first National Social Investment Programme in the country\u2019s history. Today it is the largest Social Investment Programme in Africa and one of the largest in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRestoration of the Federal Budget to a January-to-December cycle, after more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) was established in 2011, and for its first seven years did not have an enabling Act of the National Assembly \u2014 Until 2018 when President Buhari assented to the NCDC Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria Police Act, 2020: The first overhaul of the Police Act since it was originally enacted in 1943<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria Correctional Service Act, 2019 \u2013 overhauled the existing Prisons Act, almost 50 years after it was first enacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinance Acts 2019 and 2020 \u2013 the first time ever that Federal Budgets are being accompanied by dedicated and specific reform legislation, to support implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Bill (SPOMO), 2019: The first of its kind in the entire Gulf of Guinea, dedicated to prosecuting maritime offences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice Trust Fund Act, 2019: First-ever legislation dedicated to addressing the financing of the Police Force<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCAMA, 2020 \u2013 the first overhaul of the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) in 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiscrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018: Another unprecedented piece of legislation in Nigeria<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTreasury Single Account (TSA) started in 2012, expanded across the entire government by President Buhari\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to presidential spokesman, the critical projects completed by Buhari\u2019s administration include the Itakpe-Warri rail line, started in 1987, abandoned for decades, and finally completed in 2020<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompletion of four standard gauge railway projects between 2016 and 2021: Abuja-Kaduna Rail Line, Abuja Metro Line, Itakpe-Warri Rail Line and Lagos-Ibadan Rail Line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Buhari is the first President to start and complete a rail project in Nigeria\u2019s history (Lagos-Ibadan Rail).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last NLNG Train project (Train 6) was completed in 2008. President Buhari has successfully flagged off Train 7 construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki Expressway, undergoing full reconstruction for the first time since it was constructed in the late 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBodo-Bonny Bridges and Road: Construction finally kicked off in 2017, after several decades of planning, and three false starts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe long-awaited Ogoni Clean-up kicked off under the Buhari administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigerian Navy has this year (2021) acquired its first new Landing Ship Tank (LST) in more than 40 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigerian Air Force has enjoyed the largest investment in fleet renewal in decades, under President Buhari, acquiring more than two-dozen new aircraft since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstruction of the first full-scale private refinery and the first privately financed Deep Sea Port in Nigeria\u2019s history both started under President Buhari\u2019s watch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly one Modular Refinery in the country pre-2016.
