{"id":80290,"date":"2021-09-08T20:50:54","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T19:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=80290"},"modified":"2021-09-08T20:50:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T19:50:54","slug":"terrorism-efcc-orders-nigerian-foreign-ngos-to-submit-lists-of-idps-receiving-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/08\/terrorism-efcc-orders-nigerian-foreign-ngos-to-submit-lists-of-idps-receiving-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Terrorism: EFCC orders Nigerian, foreign NGOs to submit lists of IDPs receiving money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, directed local and international non-governmental organizations to submit lists of their beneficiaries in Nigeria\u2019s North-East region.<\/p>\n<p>For more than one decade, several NGOs have been making donations to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the BAY States.<\/p>\n<p>BAY is an acronym for the United Nations (UN) and the humanitarian community coined for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/31\/soldiers-displaced-as-iswap-attacks-rann-in-borno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Borno<\/a>, Adamawa and Yobe States.<\/p>\n<p>EFCC said the submission of names of persons receiving money was mandated by law to help in combating money laundering and terrorism financing in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Director, Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) domiciled in the EFCC, Daniel Isei gave the charge at an interactive meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State.<\/p>\n<p>Isei said the lists would enable the EFCC to identify and verify the actual beneficiaries of the palliatives and cash provided by donors.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Our engagement with the NGOs is to ensure and enforce compliance with the regulations and laws against money laundering and to combat financiers of terrorism activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis can only be achievable through proper identification of the beneficiaries of the Aids flows provided by the INGOs\u201d, Isei said.<\/p>\n<p>The director emphasized the need for transparency and accountability by NGOs in the discharge of their humanitarian duties.<\/p>\n<p>Isei reiterated the importance of presenting \u2018\u2018Cash Notification Forms\u2019\u2019 to the EFCC Maiduguri Command for vetting and approval before funds disbursement.<\/p>\n<p>The official said this would reduce the risk of sabotage and bring financiers of terrorism to book.<\/p>\n<p>Isei warned that adequate sanctions as provided by law will be meted to any erring NGOs that refuse to conform to rules and regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, directed local and international non-governmental organizations to submit lists of their beneficiaries in Nigeria\u2019s North-East region.
