{"id":81444,"date":"2021-09-12T06:28:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-12T05:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=81444"},"modified":"2021-09-12T06:36:46","modified_gmt":"2021-09-12T05:36:46","slug":"rescued-travellers-narrate-how-they-were-kidnapped-by-bandits-in-ondo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/12\/rescued-travellers-narrate-how-they-were-kidnapped-by-bandits-in-ondo\/","title":{"rendered":"Rescued travellers narrate how they were kidnapped by bandits in Ondo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The three kidnap victims rescued by the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, have narrated how they were kidnapped on Wednesday by bandits at the Ifira Akoko -Ido Ani Expressway in Ondo state.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the victims were among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/11\/amotekun-officials-rescue-three-remaining-travellers-abducted-in-ondo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12 passengers attacked<\/a> on Wednesday, kidnapped and taken into the bush by bandits while the remaining nine passengers were rescued by the Amotekun Corps on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The three victims identified as Benjamin Ojoga, Omolara Fajana and Faith Sunday who were reunited with their families at the Amotekun\u2019s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure said the bus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/09\/passengers-strangle-medical-doctor-turned-uber-driver-steal-car-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">driver<\/a> abandoned them and zoomed off after the kidnappers started shooting into the air.<\/p>\n<p>According to one of the rescued victims, Benjamin Ojoga, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/11\/gunmen-kill-deposed-anambra-traditional-ruler-and-his-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gunmen<\/a> struck when the passengers alighted from the bus to enable it move freely at a bad portion of the road in Ifira-Akoko, stating that the decision of the driver made it easy for the kidnappers to abduct them as they were not familiar with the terrain of the area.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIt was after the gunshots that the driver of the bus zoomed off which gave the kidnappers the opportunity to abduct us. I got injured from the beating the kidnappers gave me. They were saying that I\u2019m a \u2018force man\u2019 and I told them I\u2019m not. But they didn\u2019t believe me.<\/p>\n<p>Narrating her experience at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/12\/edo-police-rescue-five-kidnap-victims-arrest-two-suspects-after-gun-battle-with-kidnappers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnappers<\/a>\u2019 den another victim, Omolara Fajana, stated that the driver asked them to alight from the bus to enable it move smoothly on a bad portion of the road.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cOn that day, we were coming from Abuja and heading for Lagos. Shortly after leaving Ibilo, our bus got stuck on a bad portion. After spending about three to four hours getting the bus out, we continued the journey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn getting to Ifira-Akoko, we saw another bad portion and the driver told us to alight so that the bus would be lighter and to enable it to move easily. Immediately we alighted from the bus, we heard gunshots and everybody became jittery. At that moment, the bus zoomed off and the gunmen were able to abduct four of us. One of us, an old woman limping, was allowed to go but they collected her phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident happened around 6:30 pm. Then, they made us walk for about three hours inside the bush.
